Founders

Luc Demarteau

Luc is as founder and creative mind of Splendo the driving force behind several innovative technologies. Luc is able to motivate his employees to develop cutting edge technologies for several industries. Moreover, he coordinates these innovative projects with a multidisciplinary vision. Currently eHealth has his primary focus. Luc holds a master of science degree in business administration from the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Ejal Breeman

Ejal is founder of several ICT firms focusing on innovation, hardware development, telecommunications and integration of existing systems. Recognized as charismatic and for out of the box thinking. Lives with the motto "show me what is impossible and I will show you how to do it". An inventor with several patents pending. Ejal studied computer science at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

Business Development

Joost Wouters

Joost is commonly characterized as a multi-disciplinary imagineer. Joost adds to Splendo over 20 years of scientific and entrepreneurial expertise in a variety of hi-tech domains. These include Artificial Intelligence and Law, Spaceflight and Biotechnology and currently at Cerberus. Joost's primary roles include corporate strategy and (new) business development, legal counseling, research and media strategy. Joost's early involvement with the XPRIZE started with the Ansari XPRIZE. In 2007 he designed a Tissue and Organ Engineering XPRIZE which resulted in the New Organ Liver Prize. Joost received his Master of Laws degree from the University of Amsterdam specializing in e.g. 'AI and Law' and 'IP and Privacy law' Joost also studied Anglo American law at the University of Exeter, UK and Cognitive Science at the SUNY Buffalo, USA.

Ofir Betsalel

was born in Israel in 1983 and moved to The Netherlands at a young age. He soon developed a great love for science and pursued a career in this wonderful field. After studying chemistry, he obtained his Bachelor.s degree in biochemistry. He continued to work in the neuroscience field, in which he also performed his PhD research at the Free University of Amsterdam. He currently runs his own scientific marketing company, focusing on the business development of innovative products in the European market.

Engineers

Eddy Pronk

is a highly skilled software architect with experience in both R&D and enterprise environments. While working on large scale projects he kept a good overview without losing eye for detail. Worked on several advanced mobile projects, for example the Dutch Ministry of Defence where he developed a battle management system for mobile devices. Eddy studied computer science at Delft University.

Gregory Shuster

received his PhD in Nano science and nanotechnology, from the Technion . IIT. He holds an MSc in Material Engineering and a BSc in Materials Engineering and Chemistry from the Technion . IIT. Experience in the fields of disease screening through breath analysis, breathe detection and collection, sensors and medical devices. He is owner and equal partner in company NV.

Sagi Gliksman

received his MSc in Chemical Engineering from the Technion . IIT. He holds a BSc in Materials Engineering and Physics. Experience in the device design and production, algorithms, sensors and medical devices. He is owner and equal partner in company NV.

Wouter Portegrijs

Wouter Portegijs has a strong background in engineering, design, information technology and hardware. He combines this with a drive for sustainability, efficiency, quality and to find a fix for all matters. Wouter studied Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering at Delft University of Technology.

Piet Schmeits

is an industrial designer fascinated by the relationship between man and technology. He believes that technological developments can only be well translated to people by carefully crafting their experiences. Products designed by him are characterised by their ability to place man at the heart, rather than the object. Piet holds a masters degree in Industrial Design Engineering from Delft University of Technology. Currently he is also involved in advancing driver's health in public transportation vehicles through the development of a fully electric memory seat.

Medical

Anne van der Heyden

has a degree in medicine, specialisation internal medicine. Since 1996 member of the board of several hospitals on permanent and interim basis, was principal Deloitte and is partner in BMC. Besides these he fulfils several supervisory functions and leads research projects on strategic items.

Gabrielle Ponjee

is Clinical Chemist, specialisation haematology, and chairman of the Medical Staff of Clinical Chemists at Labwest. Gabrielle is executive Secretary of NVKC (Dutch Society of Clinical Chemistry), Chairman of the board of VHL (Society of Haematological Laboratories) and holds positions at Trombosis Service and Sanquin bloodbanks. At MC Haaglanden she is Member of the Medical Staff Association, Chairman of the Blood Transfusion Committee, Member of the trainers for Medical Doctors Committee. Gabrielle holds a PHD degree in clinical chemistry of Maastricht University.

Andrei Tintu

graduated in molecular biology at the Maastricht University Medical Center in 2003, obtained his PhD in angiogenesis and cardiovascular pathology at the same institute in 2007, and finished his postdoctoral fellowship at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin in 2009. After completing his residency in clinical chemistry in 2013, he currently works as a clinical chemist in the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, mainly focusing on implementation of state of the art laboratory/hospital information systems, lab automation and point of care testing.

Karin van Dael

is Pediatric Nephrologist MD. She works in a teaching hospital in Venlo; VieCuri Medical Center and at Maastricht University Medical Center. Besides her work as pediatric nephrologist, she works as a general pediatrician with special care for children with diabetes. Karin is already several years team doctor for the Dutch team attending in the World Transplant Games.

Leo Hofstra

is currently professor of cardiovascular imaging at the University of Maastricht Medical Center and Medical Director of Cardiology Center of the Netherlands. In addition, he co-founded the HAPPY (for Heart Attack Prevention Program for You) Globally Foundation, which focuses on the early detection and prevention of cardiovascular risk on a mass scale. HAPPY has executed cardiovascular prevention programs in India, Nepal, Germany, UK and USA. is currently professor of cardiovascular imaging at the University of Maastricht Medical Center and Medical Director of Cardiology Center of the Netherlands. In addition, he co-founded the HAPPY (for Heart Attack Prevention Program for You) Globally Foundation, which focuses on the early detection and prevention of cardiovascular risk on a mass scale. HAPPY has executed cardiovascular prevention programs in India, Nepal, Germany, UK and USA.

Marcel Bekkenk

has been a dermatologist since 2005. In that year he completed his thesis entitled "Clinicopathologic studies underlying the WHO-EORTC classification and new guidelines for the treatment of cutaneous lymphomas." In 2012 he initiated and developed the dermatological app "Huidmonitor" (or: Skin Monitor) in cooperation with the Dutch Melanoma Society, winning the Health App Award 2012. After working as a dermatologist and Mohs" surgeon at the Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis in Delft and Mohs Klinieken in Amsterdam he now works at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. He is chairman of the Dutch Continuing Medical Education Board (SNNDV) and serves as a member on several NVDV boards and IKNL committees.

Ellen Rouwet

graduated as medical doctor at the Maastricht University Medical Center in 2001 and obtained her PhD at the same institute in 2002. She completed her general surgery training at the Maastricht University Medical Center and the Atrium Medical Center in Heerlen in 2007 and became a certified vascular surgeon in 2009. Since then she works as a consultant vascular surgeon at the department of surgery of the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam.
